
About Keeping it Positive: Classroom Management

Keeping it Positive: Classroom Management invites teachers to explore the various aspects that together work to establish a positive and respectful classroom culture, based on agreed expectations that allow all students to experience and enjoy learning. Participants will be introduced to a range of classroom routines, structures, strategies and approaches that research and best practice have proven to be effective in supporting positive classroom management so that learning can occur.
Keeping it Positive: Classroom management is an online course developed by G&t4you Pty Ltd, t/as Gifted Online. The course is 1.5 hours in duration. Each module can consist of the following: learning content, quizzes and some optional self-reflection tasks.
Context: As outlined in the Australian Teaching Standards (2022), it is every teacher’s responsibility to support student participation by using effective classroom communication, managing behaviour and learning in the classroom through establishing inclusive and positive interactions and orderly and workable routines that support student learning. By completing the online course, Keeping it Positive: Classroom Management, participants demonstrate an active intention to establish a positive classroom culture that is more likely to promote positive learning behaviours by students, that in turn, effectively supports them in their learning.
Learning Outcomes for participants in Keeping it Positive: Classroom Management address the following: Participants will:
- develop an understanding of the impact of poor vs effective classroom management
- develop an understanding of the terms ‘behaviour management’ and ‘classroom management’
- develop an understanding of the many elements that contribute to classroom management
- explore the implications of teacher behaviour, attitude, responsiveness and approach within classroom management, and the impact these have
- explore a range of strategies that help build positive classroom relationships
- engage with examples of strategies in practice drawn from research and experience in the field
- build awareness of the value and benefits of a proactive approach to classroom management
- develop an understanding of strategies that may be employed in a proactive approach in relation to the physical space, the learning, relationships, classroom expectations, routines and rules
- engage with examples of a proactive approach in practice drawn from research and experience in the field
- engage in self-reflection for improvement
