About +/- Impact? Evaluating Effectiveness

+/- Impact? Evaluating Effectiveness introduces teachers and school leaders to a range of practices to objectively self-evaluate whether classroom planning and practice is having a positive and/or negative impact on students and their learning. Participants are encouraged to reflect on their current approach to evaluation and to actively ‘try out’ some of the evaluations within the learning as they move through it.

+/- Impact? Evaluating Effectiveness is an online course developed by G&t4you Pty Ltd, t/as Gifted Online.  The course is 1.5 hours in duration. Each module may consist of any of the following: learning content, quizzes and optional self-reflection tasks.

Context: As outlined in the Australian Teaching Standards (2022), it is every teacher’s responsibility to evaluate and improve teaching programs.  By completing the online course, +/- Impact? Evaluating Effectiveness,  participants demonstrate an awareness of the differing needs of students and an active intention to engage in professional learning in order to improve their teaching practice to more effectively support students in their learning.

Learning outcomes for participants in +/- Impact? Evaluating Effectiveness address the following: Participants will:

  • develop an understanding of why ‘seeing’ the gifted child is important
  • develop an understanding of a key model of giftedness: Differentiated Model of Giftedness and Talent (DMGT)
  • develop an understanding of the terms ‘giftedness’ and ‘talent’
  • explore the implications of the DMGT for teachers
  • explore the  common  characteristics of gifted students
  • build awareness of the behaviours these characteristics may prompt
  • develop an understanding of the levels of giftedness
  • build awareness of issues that make identification challenging
  • engage in self-reflection for improvement

Course supports participant growth in these Australian Professional Standards for Teachers at the Proficient Level:
